How does a car wiper factory manufacture windshield wipers?

There are generally the following main steps in the production of windshield wipers in a car wiper factory:

1. Design and R&D

Product design: According to market demand and the characteristics of different models, the car wiper factory designs wipers of various specifications and types, determines the size, shape, material, structure and other parameters of the wipers, and draws detailed design drawings.

Mold development: According to the design drawings, wiper factory makes the molds required for wiper production, including molds for molding wiper rubber strips, skeletons and other components. The precision and quality of the mold have an important impact on the consistency and performance of the product.

2. Raw material procurement

Rubber strip material: Wiper rubber strips are the key components of wipers. Car wiper factories usually use materials such as natural rubber or synthetic rubber, which are required to have good elasticity, wear resistance, weather resistance and anti-aging properties.

Frame material: Wiper skeletons generally use metal materials such as steel, aluminum, etc., and some use plastic or composite materials. The metal skeleton must have a certain strength and rigidity to ensure that the wiper can maintain the correct shape and pressure when working.

Other accessories: You also need to purchase various small accessories such as connecting parts, springs, rivets, etc. The quality of these accessories will also affect the overall performance and service life of the wiper.

3. Make wiper rubber strips.

Rubber strips can be said to be the most important part of the wiper, because whether the water on the glass can be scraped clean mainly depends on whether the rubber strips are good. And to make a good rubber strip, you have to start with the raw materials!

Mixing: The automobile wiper factory mixes rubber raw materials with various additives (such as vulcanizers, antioxidants, fillers, etc.) in a certain proportion in a mixer to make the rubber have the required performance and processing characteristics.
Extrusion molding: The mixed rubber is extruded into a rubber strip shape through an extruder. During the extrusion process, the temperature, speed and pressure parameters must be controlled to ensure the dimensional accuracy and surface quality of the rubber strip.
Vulcanization treatment: The extruded rubber strip is placed in a vulcanization device, and a vulcanization reaction is carried out at a certain temperature and pressure to cross-link the rubber molecules and improve the strength, elasticity and wear resistance of the rubber strip.

4. Make wiper steel strips.   

After having a perfect rubber strip, you need a suitable wiper steel strip to support its shape. The wiper steel strip can be regarded as the skeleton of the wiper. Whether a wiper can fit the windshield perfectly, or even whether the rubber strip can play the full wiping effect, depends on the quality of the steel strip!

To get a perfect steel strip, you must first feed the rolls of steel strips into the steel strip mold cutting machine, and then the steel strips are quickly cut and shaped into sections of wiper rubber strips. However, the length and curvature of each wiper steel strip of different sizes and different models are different, so a boomerang-like mold is needed to produce steel strips!

The next step is to make an anti-rust electrophoretic layer for the cut steel strips. The electrophoretic layer is to directly immerse the steel strips in the electrophoretic pool, and then use the DC electric field to allow the paint and metal to adhere. This adhesion is much stronger than ordinary spray paint. Of course, the cost of doing so will be higher, but the steel strips treated in this way will be more corrosion-resistant.

5. Make the plastic shell of the wiper

It is not enough to have only steel bars, the plastic splint of the wiper is equally important! The role of the plastic splint is to connect the steel bar and the rubber strip. Only when its quality is good enough can the wiper be durable enough! After having the rubber strip, steel bar and plastic splint, a wiper shell and a wiper buckle are still missing to form a wiper. And to make qualified wiper shells and buckles, a high-precision intelligent mold production workshop is required.

6. Assemble the wipers.

With the rubber strip, steel strip, plastic splint, shell, and buckle, wiper factory can assemble the wiper by adding a few small parts of the wiper!

1. First insert the steel strip into the red splint. When it is halfway inserted, that is, when it is in the slot on the steel strip, press a small metal spring on the slot of the steel strip, and then insert it into the splint together with the steel strip.

2. Then install a plastic positioning buckle on one end of the steel strip, and then insert the installation base of the wiper arm into the plastic splint from the other end of the steel strip, all the way to the middle position. After hearing two clicks, the base cannot move left and right, which means that the base is installed in place

3. Then install the plastic positioning buckle on the other end of the wiper, and then install the plastic deflectors at both ends of the wiper. Directly clamp the slot of the splint, and you can insert the deflector very smoothly.

4. Finally, install the fixing buckle of the wiper and wiper arm on the base, and then you can install the rubber strip. Just align the rubber strip slot with the splint slot and insert it directly. Insert it all the way to the end. Make sure that the ends of the rubber strips at both ends are fixed in the plastic positioning buckles at both ends of the wiper. The installation of the rubber strip is done.

In this way, a perfect wiper is assembled, so the rubber strip of this wiper can be replaced separately, which is super convenient!

7. Test the wiper.

Although a perfect wiper has been assembled, it is far from meeting the standard for wiper factory sale, because each batch of wipers will be sampled when leaving the factory. Only after passing the strict inspection and performance test of the wiper factory can it be sent to customers!

Appearance inspection: Check whether the appearance of the wiper has defects, such as whether the surface of the rubber strip is smooth, whether there are bubbles, cracks, etc., whether the skeleton is deformed, scratched, rusted, etc.
Dimensional accuracy measurement: Use measuring tools to measure the key dimensions of the wiper, such as the length, width, thickness of the rubber strip, the length and curvature of the frame, etc., to ensure that the dimensions meet the design requirements.
Performance test
Wiping performance test: Wiper factory installs the wiper on the test equipment simulating the car window glass, and conduct a wiping test to check whether the wiper can evenly scrape the water film on the glass surface, whether there is any missing scraping, jumping, abnormal noise, etc.
Pressure test: Test whether the pressure distribution of the wiper on the glass at different positions and angles is uniform, and whether the pressure size meets the design requirements, so as to ensure that the wiper can fit the glass well under various working conditions.
Durability test: The wiper factory simulates the frequent wiping action of the wiper in actual use, conducts a long-term durability test, checks the wear of the wiper rubber strip, the deformation of the frame, and whether the connection of each component is loose, to ensure that the wiper can meet certain service life requirements.
Weather resistance test: Expose the wiper to different environmental conditions, such as high temperature, low temperature, humidity, ultraviolet radiation, etc., to test its performance changes in various harsh environments, and evaluate the weather resistance and anti-aging ability of the wiper.

8. Packaging and warehousing

The wipers that have passed the quality inspection are packaged by the wiper factory according to different models, specifications and sales needs. The packaging forms usually include carton packaging, plastic film packaging, etc., and the packaging will indicate the product model, specifications, applicable models, production date and other information. The packaged wipers are stored in the warehouse and stored and managed according to certain rules for easy delivery and sales. During the storage process in the wiper factory warehouse, attention should be paid to maintaining suitable environmental conditions to prevent the wipers from being damaged or deteriorated.
